Getting Ready For Winter

With the autumn winds blowing cool air again, we know that winter is on the way. There’s still a month and a half of lovely autumn weather to enjoy, but eventually, winter winds will arrive, and so will the snow and the ice.

Shops are starting to incorporate Halloween and Thanksgiving items, but we’ll be in the throes of the holiday season very soon. Life gets pretty complicated when Thanksgiving arrives, and we’re all planning our holiday breaks. If you want to prepare your car for winter, the month ahead (October) is the best time to start planning, as auto repair shops begin to see a significant increase in business ahead of holiday travels.

To make sure your car is ready for the winter ahead, here are a few steps we recommend taking:

Check your tires. Winter ice and snow is the crucial time for good treads. Make sure that your tires have no unseen punctures and that the air pressure is balanced.

Check your car’s A/C system. Best to know now if this winter, you’ll be without heat in your vehicle. There’s time to get it fixed and working again.

Get a tune-up. Be sure that you’ve handled your car’s upkeep. How long have you had your car battery? When did you last get the oil filter changed? When was the last time transmission fluid, brake fluid, and coolant were checked and topped up? How about the windshield wiper fluid and the wiper blades?
